How to convert a PDF to Word

Choose or drop your PDF, press Convert to Word, then download the .docx file. Open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages and edit it like any other document — handy when an employer in The Bottom asks for a Word copy of your CV, or when you want to update an old CV you only have as a PDF.

Getting the best result

  • Use the original PDF rather than a scan or a photo — text in a scan is a picture, so it can't be edited.
  • After converting, check headings and spacing. Unusual fonts are swapped for the closest font your computer has.
  • Very designed CVs (many text boxes, overlapping shapes) may need small fixes after converting.
Is my file stored or shared?

No. The file is converted on our server and deleted as soon as the conversion finishes — it is never saved, and nobody looks at it. We keep only a record that a conversion happened (file type, size, page count and how long it took) so we can keep the tool working well.

Do I need an account?

No — you can convert 3 files a day without one. With a free Expertini account you can convert many more, and use the rest of the job-seeker tools.

What are the limits?

One PDF at a time, up to 15 MB and 60 pages. Split a longer document into parts and convert each one.

Why did my scanned PDF come out as pictures?

A scanned page is a photo of text, not text. The converter keeps the page images so nothing is lost; to get editable text you need OCR (text recognition) software first.

Need the other way round?

Use Word to PDF to turn a .docx file into a PDF that looks the same on every device.
